During the time that you’re having orthodontic treatment, it’s really important that you look after your teeth properly. With fixed braces, you will have brackets attached to your teeth and wires running between the brackets, which can make brushing your teeth more challenging than usual.

Brushing Your Teeth
You may also find that food gets stuck between your braces and your teeth. It’s important to brush as directed to prevent staining around the brackets and protect your teeth from decay.
Although aligner systems aren’t fixed to your teeth and you can brush and floss your teeth as usual, you will still have to pay extra attention to keeping your teeth clean.
Eating & Drinking
You should remove your aligner before you eat or drink anything that isn’t water, and clean your teeth thoroughly before your aligner goes back in your mouth. This will stop food from getting trapped against your teeth by the aligner, and make sure that your aligner stays crystal clear and stain-free.
We’ll give you practical advice about caring for your brace or aligner. With a fixed brace, you’ll need to come in for adjustment appointments, during which we’ll check your teeth and make sure that everything is OK. You will probably need fewer in-office appointments with aligners but we will still want to see you regularly to keep an eye on your treatment progress.
